ACA offers full-time and part-time programs for 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds as well as before care and aftercare. Programs are flexible based on a family’s needs as well as the child’s readiness. 3-year-old class options include: 5 day full or half day, 3 day half day, or 2 day half day. 4-year-old class options include: 5 day full or half day.
Maximum student to teacher ratio are 10:1 and 12:1 respectively.
Our small class sizes allow pre-k teachers to focus on the children as individuals – getting to know each student’s interests and strengths. Through play-based observations, assessments, and parent/teacher communication, your child’s teacher will recognize and set goals that are specific to your child that will challenge them and keep them enthusiastic about learning.
Our pre-k teachers use a developmentally appropriate, Biblically based curriculum from Bob Jones University Press: Pathways for Preschool (3-year-olds) and Footsteps for Fours (4-year-olds). This curriculum includes math, early reading, science, and social studies lessons that correlate with Oklahoma Priority Academic Student Skills. Phonogram recognition, sounds, and beginning handwriting are integrated using the Johnny Can Spell program. Subjects are taught through weekly thematic units that keep the children engaged and exited to learn. Teachers plan supplemental activities and learning centers that promote motor, social, cognitive, and creative skills, such as: journaling, art, music, dramatic play, technology, foreign language lessons, and more!
ACA teachers work to address the development of the whole child. We know that social/emotional skill practice is so vital at this age, which is why our pre-k classes use Conscious Discipline – a brain based program that teaches the children to identify and self-regulate their emotions. We practice breathing techniques that assist the children in calming themselves, focusing our attention on the needs of others, and conflict resolution. Our teachers work with students to help them grow and learn more about themselves and their peers. A child’s curriculum plans for his/her grade are accessible in their classroom and you may contact a teacher anytime to view them.
We believe spiritual knowledge is also key to social/emotional growth, as we believe Jesus Christ is the perfect example of how one should treat others. Your child will gain Biblical knowledge every morning as they sing worship songs and listen to Bible stories during JAM (Jesus And Me chapel time).
The first few years of a child’s life are critical for intellectual, physical, and emotional development. At ACA our pre-k teachers will partner with you to give your child the best education possible. We will love your child and your child will learn to love school!
**Altus Christian Academy’s early education (pre-school) program is exempt from state licensing requirements for child care facilities. However, ACA voluntarily meets those requirements and is committed to ongoing self-monitoring. Early education staff are expected to know licensing regulations and maintain compliance with those regulations.
